About

Hello! My name is Rubianto Satrio, and I am a husband (married for 30 years) and a father of three wonderful grown-up children (plus a daughter-in-law and a soon-to-be son-in-law). I am also a management professional with 24 years of experience working in mobile communications and – with my 2018 Ed.D degree in leadership and organizational studies – a scholar-practitioner.

I arrived in the US in summer of 1992 to get a master’s degree in electrical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. In 1995 I started working for Nortel – then one of the leading wireless companies – and ever since that time I have been working in the mobile communication industry. I am one of the lucky people who witnessed and participated in the growth of mobile communication from 2G, 3G, WiMAX, 4G LTE, and now, 5G.

Along the way I moved from engineering to sales to management. I always like to read and learn, so in 2014 I decided to pursue my lifelong dream to get a doctorate degree. I enrolled in George Washington University’s Executive Leadership Doctorate Program where I studied leadership and organizational studies.

Being a first-generation Asian-American immigrant working in a global business, I was drawn to study cross-cultural leadership and followership. For my dissertation, I conducted a research on American managers who worked in Korean companies to understand how they worked together with their Korean leaders to achieve the organizational goals. I successfully defended my dissertation in June 2018.

Since I like to read, I admire people who write great articles and books. My doctorate study then spurned my interest in writing, i.e., to become a writer like those I admire. Providentially this came as I hit the great period of life called “mid-life:” a time when our kids left the house and started becoming independent. A period when we suddenly have plenty of time at our hands and shoulder less financial responsibility. Taking advantage of this blessing of mid-life, I founded Inspires Media & Consulting, LLC in April 2019 to “harbor” my long-term dream of becoming a writer and perhaps, a consultant as well.

While over time I may focus on a writing theme that resonates well with the readers, for now I plan to write articles in a wide range of topics: leadership, faith, work, and simply life in the 21st-century America. If there is any common theme running through my articles, it is that they are based on my life experiences, and – as I reflect on them – I try to find a positive message. My hope is that my writing will inspire everyone to become a better person, to fully develop and share their talents, and to focus on the important things in life. In other words, to elevate all of us closer to God.

Thank you for reading my story. I hope you will find my writing useful. Your feedback and comments are welcome, – prayers, too.

The peace of the Lord be with you,
Rubianto Satrio
